Kosmetika is a Naarm/Melbourne-based band with members hailing from across the globe, united by a love for genre-blurring music. Their sound fuses gritty guitars, crisp basslines, and scathing synths to create a unique universe of fuzz-pop, new wave, punk, krautrock, shoegaze, and more. Alternating between Russian and English lyrics, Kosmetika adds rich, colourful layers to their music that reflect their diverse influences. Founded in 2018 in Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland) by Veeka Nazarova and Mikey Ellis, the band gained early attention with their single “Kraftneau”, known for its modern krautrock feel and hypnotic spoken word vocals. Their debut album, Pop Soap (Roolette Records) released in 2019, explored a wide sonic palette—from ’90s slacker pop to intense, layered krautrock textures. In early 2023, they released their sophomore album Illustration (Spoilsport Records), a bold step into shoegaze, synthwave, and Russian pop goth. Driven by shimmering synths, intricate drum machines, and unconventional song structures, Illustration was critically praised and nominated for the Australian Music Prize. It received rotation on 3RRR, KCRW (by Henry Rollins), KEXP, BBC 6, and was featured on Colin Newman’s radio show -Swimming In Sound. Kosmetika’s third album, Luxury (2024, Spoilsport Records), marked a shift to a more studio-focused, collaborative approach. Blending melancholic ‘80s new wave with pop, psych-inflected shoegaze, and krautrock, Luxury showcases the band’s evolution. Highlights include the slow-burning opener “Pictures Are Gone” (feat. Nazarova), Ellis’s catchy guitar-pop on “Fish” and “Make It Good”, Suriano’s punk-tinged “Reward Risk”, and the driving “Kosmetika Strikes Back” led by Moore and Lynch. Despite its diversity, the album maintains a strong, cohesive identity. Kosmetika will be releasing their highly anticipated new album, Present Perfect Continues, in October 2026, marking an exciting new chapter for the band. Following the album’s release, Kosmetika will embark on a European tour in late 2026, performing headline shows and appearing at a selection of internationally recognised music festivals.
